Last game should be a lot more competitive than the first game at Castlewood. When it comes to LPD and basketball, just not much going on anywhere.
No one school in Wise County will ever consistently be a state champion threat year in and year out in any sport until consolidation takes place. Pound and Appalachia are two perfect examples of that. St. Paul and Coeburn in the Cumberland is another. While consolidation should be mean't only for the academic betterment of the students in general, it can only help these four schools and their athletic programs....considering how much they celebrate any big win over any big school in their own district much else even consider competing for a state title.

If we consolidate we should petition the VHSL to play AA. I think a current LPD school would win the SWD in every major male sport.

In 2 more years there will be no playing up or down so there will be no petition unless the consoladation happens in the next 2 years.
On a side note I have heard that the closeing of Ervinton in Dickenson Co. is a done deal FOR NEXT YEAR and there students will be split between Clintwood and Haysi (although I am sure several will opt to go to Coeburn or St Paul).......I have no clue about the truth of this but the rumer has picked up steam this fall.
I was really just giving that Richlands guy hell, considering he came to an LPD Board. Our 4th best team beat their Regional Champ, and their Basketball is no better than ours. If Ervinton does close will it push CW back to D2?

a consolidated LPD school still wouldn't have the athletes for the River Ridge Dist. or beyond though

Possably it really depends on how the split goes I do not think Clintwood will end up with 50% of the Ervinton students many that could go to Clintwood will probably go to Coeburn or St Paul based on being closer to those schools.
I do wonder how the VHSL would come up with a count for Clintwood next season if this happens last min

This year I agree with you but normally Abingdon & Carroll County have some good athletes on their basketball teams.
The test is simple, if "your" team wins a national championship, do you get a championship ring? If the answer is yes, then you can say "we." If not, you can't.
